EU: Iraq needs more than military might
The European Commission cautioned the United States against relying only on increased military power to end violence in Iraq. A day after US President George W Bush announced the deployment of 20,000 additional troops in Iraq, the European Union's executive agency said a "more comprehensive approach" was required to bring peace to the country.
Stabilizing Iraq required action in the security sector but also in the political, economic and development arenas, commission spokesman Johannes Laitenberger told reporters.
